Do you want to make your kids smile? After months of being on the GAPS Diet, introduce hot chocolate again.
Honestly, I can guarantee that any time I bring out a mug of this hot chocolate, my boys will have big grins on their faces. And I have a smile on my face, not just because my boys are happy, but because we can have chocolate again and they don’t have any reactions from it. Before, chocolate could make them go a little crazy. Now, it’s just another yummy food, and this hot chocolate recipe is a great healthy alternative to the stuff you can buy in the can at the store. I never feel guilty giving it to them.
This recipe comes from the blog at lovingourguts.com.
GAPS Hot Chocolate
1 raw organic pastured egg
1 Tbs. organic unrefined coconut oil
2 Tbs. cocoa powder
1 Tbs. gelatin (optional)
1 Tbs. organic grassfed butter
1/8 tsp. Himalayan crystal salt
1 1/2 Tbs. raw honey
1 cup boiling filtered water
Put all the ingredients except for the water in the blender and pulse a few times to mix. Boil the water and slowly pour it over the rest of the ingredients while blending; continue blending until smooth.
For a dairy free hot chocolate: Eliminate the butter and double the amount of coconut oil used.
It’s been a few months since my boys have had any hot chocolate … should I blend up a batch today and see what happens? 😉
For little boys’ smiles 😀

My son’s class is having hot chocolate tomorrow. How long and how well does it sit? I want to send it hot in the morning, but I’m afraid the texture will change as it sits.

Hi Carrie!
As long as it keeps warm, the texture will be ok. If it cools, it does start to firm up related to the gelatin in it. However, if you want it to stay liquid longer, just omit the gelatin.
