Salted Caramel Latte

It may only be 3 degrees Fahrenheit outside right now, but it doesn’t matter to me, because the cold means that there is no cloud cover today … it’s actually SUNNY!  After a couple of days of drinking mug after mug of tea while being sick with a sinus infection, this morning I decided to make this delicious latte to celebrate being able to smell scents a little again and to enjoy while I sat soaking up a little sun through the window.  I can’t really taste much yet, but that’s OK, because I’ve enjoyed it before and know that you will too 😉

The original recipe can be found at Wellness Mama, another one of my favorite websites.  Thank you!

Salted Caramel Latte

1 cup organic coffee, herbal coffee or chai tea

1 Tbs. organic coconut oil (or MCT oil)

1 Tbs. organic grassfed butter

sprinkle Himalayan salt

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. raw honey (or more to taste)

Opt: sprinkle Himalayan salt and drizzle honey on top

Brew coffee, mix all ingredients together in a blender, and blend until smooth.  Top with drizzled honey and a sprinkle of salt.  Enjoy!

Note: To make a mocha, add up to 1 Tbs. cocoa powder.

  1. I’ve been drinking my coffee bulletproof since I first read wellness mama’s orginal post a couple years ago. To say I’m addicted is an understatement! Now that I’m considering GAPS to finally kick my eczema, I’m not sure this favorite ritual will be allowed?! I guessing “no” since coffee can be inflammatory and cross-reactive in people with gluten intolerant autoimmune conditions. What can I replace this much needed morning fat drink with? Thanks!

    1. Jodie,
I will be the first to admit that I love my coffee, but I surprisingly found that I was able to overcome my addiction the last time we went through the GAPS Intro 🙂 I still enjoy a cup now and again, but I no longer NEED to have one; I actually find that I prefer my tea instead!
Weak coffee is allowed on Full GAPS, but it’s not something that I’d recommend starting off on the diet, but instead, should be enjoyed after healing has taken place. In the morning, if you are looking for something to give you extra fat, something that I’ve found enjoyable is a GAPS milkshake. Dr. Natasha recommends pressing your favorite juice blend (even something simple like carrots and celery can be good) and then blending it with a little sour cream and an egg yolk. This is a great way to get healthy fats in and to promote digestive healing. It also gives you lots of energy to start your day with!
I know initially the thought of giving up coffee is depressing. Honestly, I would have given up every single item of food that I could eat as long as I could keep my coffee, but with time, this gets better 🙂 And as I mentioned, with time and healing, coffee is not always off limits. 🙂

  2. Thank you! I will try the egg yolk in juice for sure. I have been using Coffeeblocks (Cool start-up company, I funded the kickstarter a few months back) up to this point which has an egg yolk in it, along with organic coconut oil, grass-fed ghee and organic vanilla. Check them out. Hoping I can go back to it one day…:)
