I just got my copy of “The Heal Your Gut Cookbook” by Hilary Boynton and Mary G. Brackett in the mail today, and as I was flipping through it, I got all excited in a GAPSy kind-of way 🙂
When we first started GAPS, I got most of my recipes from surfing the Internet. There wasn’t much as far as GAPS recipes went, but I found that some Paleo recipes or other recipes for special diets could be adapted to be appropriate for us. I really, really wish that we had had this book back when we first started.
The entire scope of the diet is laid out in the book, accompanied by beautiful color photos. They discuss everything from making ghee to making broth (along with pictures) and even outline specific recipes by stage of the Introduction Diet. Recipes include main courses, how to include organ meats in dishes, and even a recipe for “Amazingly Delicious Carrot Cake”, which I drooled over (can you tell I’m going through some die-off this week? 😉 )
The book includes:
- A forward by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride
- The personal stories of the authors
- Tips to learn before you start GAPS
- The GAPS Introduction Diet by stages
- Full GAPS Diet, including condiments, salads, fish, poultry, meat, organ meats, vegetables, ferments, snacks and desserts
- There is also a nice resources section, with lists of helpful books, videos, websites, authors, bloggers and suppliers
In short, I would definitely recommend this book for anyone following or thinking about following the GAPS Diet. The following link will take you to where it can be found on Amazon:
Happy cooking!
